(CASE STUDY) Pivoting to a Live Stream & Virtual Event

How we Pivoted….QUICKLY

What Should have been a 1000 in-person conference, became 10x that virtually

The TensorFlow Dev Summit 2020, like many events, had to pivot quickly. Cancelling the highly anticipated summit was out of the question as there were numerous important updates to share. The Tensor Flow team asked Argus HD to rise to the challenge. Challenge accepted!

From In-Person to a Virtual Meeting: The team was quick to address the safety of the participants and called off the in-person event (weeks before it became mandated by law). Now their 4th annual dev summit would be held sans audience, making it one of Google’s 1st tech dev summits to be live streamed as a “virtual event”. A model that was closely watched & studied by the rest of the organization.

How we Pivoted: Deciding to change from a highly attended summit to a complete “virtual event” created many logistical changes and challenges, but the Argus HD Productions team seamlessly changed gears too. A high level overview included script preparation, targeted social engagement & reconfiguring the set to make sure it was shown in it’s best light. In addition to the 7 cameras that were going to be used for the original production, Argus brought in a 8th “audience” camera with a teleprompter so the presenters can talk directly to the “virtual audience”.  For the live streaming component, Argus HD ran separate streams to multiple websites and implemented backup streams for safety and redundancies, ensuring that the “virtual event” went seamlessly.

Virtual Conference Results: Based to the number of viewers and “live chat” interactions on the websites, the decision to go completely virtual was hugely successful. With tens of thousands of developers watching around the world, live, TensorFlow successfully unveiled their new tools and improved products that they have been working on during the past year.
