Argus HD is LIVE with the Concert For America

Live Concert for America
Jane Lynch and Kate Flannery perform a high-energy version of “Far From the Home I Love” from Fiddler on the Roof.

Founded in 2017 by Seth Rudesky and James Wesley, the Concert For America is a star-studded concert series hosted monthly in different cities around the United States. Its goal is to raise fund for a variety of different charities, including the National Immigration Law Center, the Sierra Club, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Argus HD (video production San Francisco) was tasked with broadcasting and live-streaming the June, 2017 concert live from San Francisco’s historic Curran Theater. The show featured performances from Tony winner Alan CummingGlee star Jane Lynch, writer Armistead MaupinThe Office‘s Kate FlanneryQueer as Folk‘s Hal Sparks, Broadway performers Kevin Chamberlin and Faith Prince, comedian Marga Gomez, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, singers Paula West and Pasquale Esposito, and Wicked star Shoshana Bean, and features appearances from Sharon Gless (Cagney & Lacey, Queer as Folk), Rory O’Malley (Hamilton), and Wilson Cruz (My So-Called Life).

At the camera station, the camera operator can monitor and operate all three cameras and keep track of the progress of the show.

The Concert For America producers called on Argus HD to put together the live broadcast and stream of the show, and Argus was very happy to accept. Our strategy was to set up three cameras around the theater — one for a wide shot, one for close-ups, and one for a side view of the stage. The video signals and control cables were run to our dedicated table just off stage right, from where we operated the cameras, cut the show, and sent the results live to Facebook, where thousands of people from around the world got to watch.
